People of the Cape Fear Summertime Kids Activity Series

Thanks to funding from the Cumberland Community Foundation Activity Kits will now be available through July 31, 2021!

Kids 12 yrs and under visiting the Museum in June and July receive a free "People of the Cape Fear" themed activity kit . Each week brings a new theme from Pirates to Colonial Kids, learn about the people of the Cape Fear. The take home kits contain a craft, fun history facts, and MORE! Be sure to take pics of your history craft and share with us on our social media accounts, Facebook and Instagram, @museumofthecapefear.

JULY 6-11: RUTH AND THE GREEN BOOK  To complement our current exhibit "Navigating Jim Crow: The Green Book and Oasis Spaces in NC," this week's theme explores the topic from the perspective of a young African American girl travelling with her family.  Along with an activity kit for each child, each family group will receive a free copy of Ruth and the Green Book.  A historical fiction picture book for 7- to 11-year-olds about the challenges of traveling for African American families during the Jim Crow era. As Ruth travels with her family from Chicago to Alabama to visit her grandmother, she learns that the Green Book provides a vital record of the network of services and support for African Americans on the road.
