Social Media Coordinator (Part Time)

The Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex is seeking a dynamic, efficient, and enthusiastic individual to serve as our social media coordinator. This position is responsible for working with the Education staff to develop and implement consistent and creative social media content across all platforms. Additionally, this position assists and participates in planning, promoting, and implementing other special events and programs. This position also serves as our front desk greeter, rings up gift shop purchases, and provides guided tours of the 1897 Poe House. The selected applicant will have a two week training period with the education staff and volunteer docents before leading tours on their own.

Schedule: Tuesday- Friday 10:00-5:00 pm; Saturday 10:00-5:00 pm and/or Sunday 1:00-5:00; special event hours include occasional weekends and evenings. 2-3 weekdays per week and every other weekend.

Pay: $17/hr (Up to 29 hrs per week)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and curate engaging content for social media platforms.
  • Assist in the creation and editing of written, video, and photo content.
  • Attend events and produce live social media content.
  • Maintain unified brand voice across different social media channels.
  • Collaborate with education team to create a social media calendar.
  • Interact with users and respond to social media messages, inquiries, and comments.
  • Review analytics and create reports on key metrics.
  • Assist in the development and management of social media marketing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To qualify for this position, you must meet ALL the following KSA's listed below:

  • Passion for social media and proficiency with major social media platforms and social media management tools
  • Proficiency with video and photo editing tools, digital media formats, and HTML
  • Ability to understand historical, current, and future trends in the digital content and social media space.
  • Strong copywriting and copy editing skills.
  • Top-notch oral and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented approach with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Must have a valid NC driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma, (Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field preferred); 1-3 years experience with social media marketing or content development; Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook); Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premier Pro) or equivalent digital media editing tools a plus; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex is a regional section of the North Carolina Division of State History Museums, serving 20 counties in the southern portion of the state. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the cultural history of North Carolina and the state for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations. The complex consists of the regional museum, the 1897 Poe House and Arsenal Park.
